@idontcare80 how are they not competing? ssc produces similiar results with half the sticker price.

idontcare80

@idontknow5858 You misunderstand. They aren't really competing, they built a 250 mph go-cart. Big deal.

idontknow5858

@idontcare80 you misread. i said its unthinkable to have a company as small as ssc competing with a company that's got as many resources as bugatti.

idontcare80

@idontknow5858 Unthinkable? There is a video of an Acura RSX that can go 234 mph on my channel, and that's with a 2 liter, 4 cylinder engine. There is a video in my favorites of a Toyota Supra that goes 246 mph IN A MILE and that's a ~3 liter engine. There are people that build V8 powered cars that run an 8 second 1/4 mile in their garage. There is nothing special about the Aero, it's just a kit car chassis with a twin turbo Chevy V8, that's been done, time and time again.

idontknow5858

@idontcare80 beautiful complexity? you must love calculus. the aero is simple. it was designed and intended to be, look at ssc's research facility. they haven't got 1/10 of the capabilities and research potential the boys at bugatti got, the fact that their only 10 miles away from stealing the veyron's crown again is unthinkable given their resources, budget, and capabilities.

idontcare80

...Bugatti did the things they did with the Veyron because they could, not out of some kind of desperate necessity. Although, they were probably restricted to using 4 turbos. Ideally you want as few as possible to minimize rotating mass, but two huge turbos probably wouldn't fit in such a densely packaged car. Regardless, it's just another example of the beautiful complexity of the Veyron.

idontcare80

@idontknow5858 Competes? On what level? It's like having a fancy Geo Metro that can go 250 mph, it's *ing stupid. The Veyron didn't need a W16, Bugatti chose a large displacement W16 so it would be reliable and easy to drive with minimal lag. They chose to make it AWD because that's the only way to realistically put 1000+ hp to the pavement and because they wanted world * acceleration (the Aero can't come close to matching the acceleration of the Veyron)...

idontknow5858

@idontcare80 so what? it still competes with the veyron. they are competitors. a rinky dink company from the states is competing with a multimillion dollar company from across the sea. Aero is better, because it needs less. it doesn't need a W16. it competes for the world record using a simple engine block. i fear u'll miss the point.

idontcare80

Also, you don't seem to know much about the Veyron, watch these: watch?v=16dE3bCrI aI Notice the active aerodynamics. (there was an excellent TopGear video of the Veyron SS but it was removed due to copywrite violation). watch?v=LO0P gyPWE3o

idontcare80

...large enough to make a car body and even fewer people can design and build a carbon fiber monocoque chassis like the Veyron uses. In fact there are probably only a handful of large corporations that could make a fully carbon fiber chassis. My point about Shelby starting out the way he did was meant to point out the heritage of the cars.
